“How Screens Affect Your Sleep: Tips to Improve Rest”

In today’s digital and social media era, we are surrounded by screens on all sides and because of these screens all around us, our sleep gets disturbed a lot and this has a lot of effect on our body. We are constantly surrounded by screens—whether it’s our smartphones, laptops, tablets, or TVs. While these devices are essential in our daily lives, they can also interfere with one crucial aspect of our health: sleep. Let’s dive into how screens affect your sleep and what you can do to minimize their impact.

The reason given by scientists behind this is blue light. Blue light is fine during the day, but at night this light affects your body and brain a lot and also disturbs your sleep. Screens emit blue light, a type of light that mimics daylight. While this is helpful during the day to keep us alert, it becomes a problem when we use screens at night. Blue light can trick our brain into thinking it’s still daytime, disrupting the production of melatonin—the hormone responsible for making us feel sleepy. As a result, it becomes harder to fall asleep and maintain a restful sleep cycle.

Why does it work, I mean why should we stay away from the screen and what are its disadvantages to us? If you get less sleep or poor sleep causes a lot of problems to your body as well as your brain and health and this causes a lot of problems not only in the short term but also in the long term, it affects your sleep a lot due to which it weakens your body and studies show that chronic sleep deprivation can lead to a weakened immune system, weight gain, decreased cognitive function, and an increased risk of conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Working on laptops or tablets: Using screens for work at night can not only affect melatonin production but also increase stress levels, making it harder to unwind.

Screens are an unavoidable part of modern life, but being mindful of how we use them, especially at night, can help protect our sleep. Small changes in habits, like reducing screen time before bed or using night mode, can make a significant difference in your overall sleep quality and health.

If you prioritize better sleep, your body and mind will thank you. So, are you ready to unplug for better rest?
